Yonex Hi-Soft Grap

The Yonex’s PU Replacement grip Hi-Soft Grap is designed with ultimate comfort in mind but still sports a non-slip performance and great absorbency. The Yonex Hi-Soft grip is a perfect marriage between comfort and performance, ranking highly in tackiness and comfort. It proves that you don’t have to sacrifice comfort for performance, so let’s have our cake and eat it too.

Raquex Enhance Grip

The Raquex Enhance Replacement PU Grip is the “Number 1 Best Seller” on Amazon with over 4000 5-star reviews, a newbie on the scene that is definitely worth considering. Being a new player in an already established market is always difficult, but there is no denying that the Raquex Enhance grip is definitely well-placed to steal the beginner’s market. But let’s see how it fairs against one of the titans of the industry.

Cons

We performed several tests and rated each grip we tested according to 7 different categories.  If you want to see exactly how we tested them, check out our article Best Badminton Grips.

Tackiness

Yonex Hi-Soft Grap

  • 9/10
  • EXTREMELY TACKY
  • LONG-LASTING TACKINESS

There is nothing wrong with the tackiness of the Yonex Hi-Soft. The tackiness performed great in our in-house tests and this was also backed up on the court too. We found the tackiness to be long-lasting, still performing well after several matches and training sessions.

Raquex Enhance Grip

  • 7/10
  • TACKY
  • SMOOTH FEEL

The tackiness of this grip was decent, though not quite up to the high standards of premium grips like the Yonex Hi-Soft. Not as “Super Grippy” as they describe, but not bad, not quite up to the level of the Yonex Hi-Soft.

Comfort

Yonex Hi-Soft Grap

  • 10/10
  • PERFECT PADDING
  • CUSHIONED FEEL
  • SHOCK ABSORBING

The Yonex Hi-Soft Grap is brilliantly cushioned for ultimate comfort. Even though the grip is padded, it doesn’t mean that the grip is too thick. This is why the Yonex Hi-Soft Grap scored a perfect score as it maintains a perfect balance between comfort and thickness making it great to hold without compromising on performance.

Raquex Enhance Grip

  • 7/10
  • GOOD PADDING
  • CUSHIONED FEEL
  • SLIGHTLY PLASTICKY

The Raquex PU grip was comfy to hold, with good padding for a cushioned feel. We felt what stopped the grip from reaching top marks was that the padding, though definitely good, wasn’t exceptional and the grip material felt slightly plasticky. Hard to compete against the perfect padding of the Yonex Hi-Soft.

Durability

Yonex Hi-Soft Grap

  • 9/10
  • DURABLE
  • LONG-LASTING
  • TACKY EVEN AFTER EXTENDED USE

Like all Yonex products, the Hi-Soft Grap reflects the brand’s quality and is well-made. We found that the Yonex Hi-Soft Grap withstood the durability tests. Also, the durability of the grip has been put to the test in several matches and training sessions and passed with flying colors.

Raquex Enhance Grip

  • 7/10
  • DURABLE
  • REDUCED TACKINESS AFTER USE

The Raquex PU grip is strong and durable, good enough to withstand the wear and tear of a badminton match without the need for frequent changing. There was very minor scuffing from the exfoliating glove from our durability test and we did find that the tackiness of the grip reduced after a full night of badminton, but we felt this was only a minor mark against the durability of the grip.

Style

Yonex Hi-Soft Grap

  • 5/10
  • AVERAGE NUMBER COLORS
  • RANGE OF 6 COLORS
  • WHITE, BLACK, PINK, BLUE, YELLOW, AND RED

If there is one area where the Yonex Hi-Soft Grap is underwhelming, it’s style. With only 6 colors available there is of course enough to choose from but scores very poorly compared to the Raquex Enhance Grip. This is one area that the Yonex Hi-Soft just can’t compete.

Raquex Enhance Grip

  • 8/10
  • LOTS OF COLORS
  • RANGE OF 13 COLORS

A big win for the Raquex brand here. A standout feature of the Raquex PU grip is the range of colors, more than doubling the number of colors available to the Yonex Hi-Soft. With 13 to choose from it makes it one of the go-to choices for players for which grip color matters. You will definitely find a color you love.

Absorbency

Yonex Hi-Soft Grap

  • 8/10
  • GREAT ABSORBENCY
  • TACKY EVEN WHEN WET
  • NO PROBLEM FOR SWEATY HANDS

In our absorbency test, we found that the Yonex Hi-Soft Grap performed admirably. We observed that the tackiness of the grip was not lost even when wet. Though not as good as the towel grips, we found that the Hi-Soft Grap would perform perfectly well for the vast majority of players, back to winning ways.

Raquex Enhance Grip

  • 5/10
  • POOR ABSORBENCY
  • SLIPPY WHEN WET

In our tests, we found that the Raquex PU grip performed the worst during the absorbency test. We found that the tackiness of the grip was lost when we wet our hands making the grip slippy to hold. This is the only category where it doesn’t keep up with the Yonex Hi-Soft Grap.

Ease of Regrip

Yonex Hi-Soft Grap

  • 7/10
  • ADHESIVE BACKING
  • NO INSTRUCTIONS PROVIDED
  • SPEED – 1 MIN 32 SEC

Regripping the Yonex Hi-Soft Grap was an easy process, featuring a pre-cut start position and finishing tape. However, instructions were not provided for the individual grip we purchased and the end of the grip is not pre-cut, so can be tricky for beginners. In the speed test, it wasn’t particularly fast, coming in a joint 6th out of the 9 with its sibling, Yonex Super Grap, 7 seconds slower than its competitor, the Raquex Enhance Grip.

Raquex Enhance Grip

  • 8/10
  • ADHESIVE BACKING
  • INSTRUCTIONS PROVIDED
  • SPEED – 1 MIN 25 SEC

Again another victory for the newbie, regripping the Raquex PU grip is a straightforward process, featuring both a pre-cut start position, which is indicated on the grip, and finishing tape. Instructions are provided for beginners along with video instructions that can be found on their website. Removing both the outer layer and the adhesive backing simultaneously can be a little difficult if you are new to regripping. It was 7 seconds quicker than the Yonex Hi-Soft Grap.

Price

Yonex Hi-Soft Grap

  • 8/10
  • EXCELLENT VALUE FOR MONEY
  • BULK BUY AVAILABLE
  • EXPENSIVE TO TEST

When it comes to the price and its value for money, the Yonex Hi-Soft Grap is amazing when buying in bulk. We found that you could purchase it for around ~£2.00 in bulk, which for what you get, is incredible. The only minor downside is that buying an individual grip to test out can be pricey. Individual grips can be bought for around ~£5.00 including shipping, a high barrier to entry.

Raquex Enhance Grip

  • 6/10
  • NOT EXPENSIVE NOT CHEAP
  • GREAT FOR BEGINNERS AND INTERMEDIATES
  • BULK BUY AVAILABLE

The price of the Raquex PU grip can range from as cheap as ~2.90 in bulk to ~£5.49 for a single grip. The price is definitely good enough for what you get and will be a brilliant choice for beginners and intermediate players. But, considering we found that you could buy the Yonex Hi-Soft for cheaper, it isn’t the absolute best value, especially if you are looking to improve your game that little bit more.

Summary

Yonex Hi-Soft Grap

Yonex’s Hi-Soft Grap is crafted with the player’s comfort at the forefront while maintaining a non-slip performance and excellent absorbency. With a perfect score for comfort, its brilliant padding and shock absorption strike a perfect balance between comfort and performance. The grip showcases impressive durability, reflecting Yonex’s quality craftsmanship, and maintaining its tackiness even after our in-house tests and on-court experience. However, it falls slightly short in terms of style variety, offering only a limited range of colors. In terms of value for money, purchasing in bulk provides great savings, yet individual grip prices might deter some testers due to the higher cost. In summary, the Yonex Hi-Soft PU Replacement grip provides exceptional comfort without sacrificing performance, making it the go-to grip for those players seeking additional comfort during play but who want to maintain a high level of competition.

Raquex Enhance Grip

The Raquex Enhance Replacement PU Grip stands as a promising choice, especially for players exploring their grip preferences. Its decent tackiness, diverse color options, and durability make it an attractive consideration, particularly for beginners and intermediate players who want to upgrade from the starter grip that their racket came with. However, its absorbency issues, slightly plasticky feel, and reduced tackiness after extended use may deter players who want to make that next jump up and are seeking higher grip performance. In summary, the Raquex Enhance Replacement PU Grip offers a decent grip, comfort, and durability, making it a viable choice for those discovering their grip preferences. Despite its drawbacks in absorbency and comfort, its affordability and variety of color options may appeal to players seeking a reliable grip without breaking the bank.
