We performed several tests and rated each grip we tested according to 7 different categories.  If you want to see exactly how we tested them, check out our article Best Badminton Grips.

Tackiness

Karakal Super Grip

  • 8/10
  • VERY TACKY
  • GREAT GRIP

We have high praise for the Karakal PU Super Grip for its ability to provide a secure and non-slip grip on the racket handle, even during intense matches and training. The tackiness of the grip is a crucial factor for players in maintaining control and making precise shots, especially in badminton.

Yonex Hi-Soft Grap

  • 9/10
  • EXTREMELY TACKY
  • LONG-LASTING TACKINESS

There is nothing wrong with the tackiness of the Yonex Hi-Soft. The tackiness performed great in our in-house tests and this was also backed up on the court too. We found the tackiness to be long-lasting, still performing well after several matches and training sessions.

Comfort

Karakal Super Grip

  • 8/10
  • VERY COMFY
  • GOOD PADDING
  • PERFECT THICKNESS

As we have seen, the tackiness of this grip is great. But we are happy to say that comfort hasn’t been neglected either. Comfy to hold, it has good padding as the grip’s polyurethane material provides a cushioned and soft texture that is comfortable to hold. But not quite as good as the Yonex Hi-Soft.

Yonex Hi-Soft Grap

  • 10/10
  • PERFECT PADDING
  • CUSHIONED FEEL
  • SHOCK ABSORBING

The Yonex Hi-Soft Grap is brilliantly cushioned for ultimate comfort. Even though the grip is padded, it doesn’t mean that the grip is too thick. This is why the Yonex Hi-Soft Grap scored a perfect score as it maintains a perfect balance between comfort and thickness making it great to hold without compromising on performance.

Durability

Karakal Super Grip

  • 9/10
  • LONG-LASTING
  • REMAINED TACKY
  • DURABLE

We found that the Karakal PU Super Grip showed limited wear after the test, demonstrating the durability that it is well known for, which is a significant advantage for players. The Karakal PU Super Grip is also long-lasting, maintaining its tackiness and reducing the need for frequent replacements. This can be a cost-effective choice for players in the long run.

Yonex Hi-Soft Grap

  • 9/10
  • DURABLE
  • LONG-LASTING
  • TACKY EVEN AFTER EXTENDED USE

Like all Yonex products, the Hi-Soft Graps reflect the brand’s quality and are well-made. We found that the Yonex Hi-Soft Grap withstood the durability tests. Also, the durability of the grip has been put to the test in several matches and training sessions and passed with flying colors. There is nothing to split the two grips here.

Style

Karakal Super Grip

  • 10/10
  • ENDLESS COLOURS
  • DIFFERENT STYLES
  • PERFECT FOR FASHIONISTAS

Not only is it amazingly functional, but one of the standout features of the Karakal PU Super Grip is its style, with a seemingly endless number of colors and patterns that are rivaled by none. With many different colors, patterns, and styles, there is certainly a grip for everyone.

Yonex Hi-Soft Grap

  • 5/10
  • AVERAGE NUMBER COLORS
  • RANGE OF 6 COLORS
  • WHITE, BLACK, PINK, BLUE, YELLOW, AND RED
  •

If there is one area where the Yonex Hi-Soft Grap is underwhelming, it’s style. With only 6 colors available there is of course enough to choose from but scores very poorly compared to the likes of the Karakal Super Grip. This is one area that the Yonex Hi-Soft just can’t compete with the Karakal Super Grip.

Absorbency

Karakal Super Grip

  • 7/10
  • GOOD ABSORBENCY
  • GOOD FOR SWEATY HANDS
  • TACKY WHEN WET

The Karakal Super Grip’s ability to absorb sweat is highly appreciated, especially as badminton is a high-intensity sport. We found that it kept our hand dry and we were able to maintain a secure hold even when wet, our simulated sweaty conditions.

Yonex Hi-Soft Grap

  • 8/10
  • GREAT ABSORBENCY
  • TACKY EVEN WHEN WET
  • NO PROBLEM FOR SWEATY HANDS

In our absorbency test, we found that the Yonex Hi-Soft Grap performed admirably. We observed that the tackiness of the grip was not lost even when wet. Though not as good as the towel grips or Yonex Super Grap, we found that the Hi-Soft Grap would perform perfectly well for the vast majority of players, again beating the Karakal in another category.

Ease of Regrip

Karakal Super Grip

  • 8/10
  • EASY TO REGRIP
  • NO INSTRUCTION FOR SINGLE-GRIP
  • SPEED – 1 MIN 22 SEC

We found that the Karakal PU Super Grip was easy to regrip. Even though the single grip didn’t have instructions, it indicated where to start on the grip. However, the end of the grip is not pre-cut, so can be tricky for beginners. It was 10 seconds faster than the Yonex Hi-Soft and the third fastest overall out of all the grips to regrip in our speed trial.

Yonex Hi-Soft Grap

  • 7/10
  • ADHESIVE BACKING
  • NO INSTRUCTIONS PROVIDED
  • SPEED – 1 MIN 32 SEC

Regripping the Yonex Hi-Soft Grap was an easy process, featuring a pre-cut start position and finishing tape. However, instructions were not provided for the individual grip we purchased and the end of the grip is not pre-cut, so can be tricky for beginners. In the speed test, it wasn’t particularly fast, coming in a joint 6th out of the 9 with its sibling, Yonex Super Grap, 10 seconds slower than its competitor, the Karakal Super Grip.

Price

Karakal Super Grip

  • 8/10
  • GOOD VALUE
  • PRICE RANGES
  • PAY MORE FOR STYLE

We found that the price of the Karakal PU Super Grip ranges depending on the color and style. starting from as low as around ~£2.50 in bulk to ~£10 for an individual grip in a specific style. The price works out to be mid-range but you do pay for the more expansive color range. Nevertheless, we feel that what you get for the price is definitely worth it.

Yonex Hi-Soft Grap

  • 8/10
  • EXCELLENT VALUE FOR MONEY
  • BULK BUY AVAILABLE
  • EXPENSIVE TO TEST

When it comes to the price and its value for money, the Yonex Hi-Soft Grap is amazing when buying in bulk. We found that you could purchase it for around ~£2.00 in bulk, which for what you get, is incredible. The only minor downside is that buying an individual grip to test out can be pricey. Individual grips can be bought for around ~£5.00 including shipping, a high barrier to entry.
